SOCIAL SECURITY PROJECT
This initiative started with the idea that we must protect the infrastructure of our society. Since it’s founding in 1939 Social Security was meant to be a backstop to poverty and it has achieved that goal for millions of Americans. Social Security is unique and we as Americans can save this program for future generations. No need to wait for government to fix this as we the people have the ability, power and resources to assist, protect and save this precious program without delay.
While there are a number of causes we can support like child poverty and the environment, it is critical that the working Americans have the backstop of Social Security and are able to access the Social Security benefit to sustain themselves as long as they need it. Future seniors and the disabled who may not be able to support themselves without Social Security is one of the most urgent immediate social challenges of our time.
The Social Security Project was started to save America’s retirement benefit and we encourage all Americans who have the ability to donate to this critical cause.
Ida May Fuller became the first Social Security beneficiary in 1940.
In 2023, an average of almost 67 million Americans per month will receive a Social Security benefit, totaling about $1.4 trillion in benefits paid during the year.
